How to find your style step by step

how-to-find-your-style-step-by-step-analyze-your-current-wardrobe The more money you have, the better you dress. The truth is you don`t. You can be well dressed on a budget just by making smarter choices. Forget about fast fashion, following trends, shopping on sale and buying garments just because you think you might need them someday. The secret is to buy clothes that are in your style.

I know there are more significant problems in the real world and how to find your style step-by-step won`t save the planet. But this post aims to help those of you who struggle to find their unique fashion taste.

How to find your style in step by step

Take five minutes from your time and look carefully into your wardrobe. Pay attention to your clothes. What textures, cuts, colours can you see? Do you gather many trendy items or pieces that match your unique personality and lifestyle? What are the length and fit of your clothes? Are you comfortable with all of your garments? What are your most worn items?

STEP 2 – KNOW YOUR BODY SHAPE  How to wear brocade - winter trend | Apricot

Now that you find few pieces that you frequently wear and like, you are probably wondering what`s wrong with the other bits you have in the wardrobe. You solely chose the wrong clothes. Focus instead on your spending money on items that suit your body type. Dressing accordingly to your body shape helps you understand what your body strength is and what to visually correct/ hide.

For the eye, the hourglass shape is considered perfection. I repeat, for the eye. Many people might say it`s controversial. Society wants us to dress to achieve the perfect silhouette. To me, knowing your body shape will give you confidence and teach you how to rock with what you have. You won`t feel frustrated when you shop (like I did) and you will make smarter choices.

Once you started looking for clothes for your body shape, you should pay attention to different cuts as well. Getting this right will take some time, but at least you can experiment until you find the right clothes. Forget the myth that only tall people can wear a midi/ maxi length. You can wear anything you like just dress it up to embrace your personality.

Have you noticed nowadays how many beautiful designs but so many unflattered shapes? In my opinion, fitted garments create a smooth silhouette. Tailoring your clothes, it`s an option you should take into consideration. Forget this step if you are keen on oversized/ baggy items. With some clothes, you can even go up a size. Remember, it`s your style, therefore your decision.

Just by analysing your wardrobe you can tell if colours play a huge role. A quick tip in choosing your colour palette is to start with neutrals ( white/nude, brown/grey, black/navy) and then add block colours. The proper hues you selected might be just a personal preference such as your favourite colour. Or maybe your eye is trained to recognised the primary, secondary and tertiary colours and how to mix them. But do the colours in your wardrobe accurately suit you?

You probably noticed some garments look good on you. They make your eye colour pop; you look fresh and radiant. It all has to do with picking up the right colours for your skin tone/ undertone. In a natural daylight, your hand blue/purple veins show you have a cool undertone. A green colour will expose the opposite a warm undertone. Take a piece of clothing from your wardrobe. Can you tell which undertone it is?

STEP 5 – DRESS FOR THE PRESENT how-to-find-your-style-step-by-step

Another important tip is to dress for your daily activities. Try to create your uniform, also known as your signature look. Perhaps you like stripes, and floral patterns or a monochrome appearance with a pop of colour. Having your signature outfit in mind, knowing what you like to will stop you from buying just for the sake of it. Buy quality items and wear the garments now; don`t get them for when you will be taller, curvier, thinner, etc. For me, sweaters are a must as I live in England. Happy days.

STEP 5 – PLAY WITH ACCESSORIES, HAIR & MAKEUP How-to-find-your-style-step-by-step-accessories

If you are still not convinced what your style is, this last step is here to help. When it comes to accessories, you need to decide if you like eccentric pieces or you prefer a minimalist approach. Do you like to add bright colours or keep it neutral? Are you following all the makeup trends or you fancy a natural look? For me, my ideal accessories are black shoes. I love rocking red lipstick, pearl earrings, midi skirts and long hair.

STEP  6 – FIND INSPIRATION How to find style body type cuts fits inspiration current style accessories

I have the same body shape as my mum, so it was easy to observe and copy the shapes, lengths and cuts she is wearing. Your inspiration is everywhere. Observe what your friends, family, celebrities are wearing. Search for #ootd posts on Instagram and create your boards on Pinterest.
